New Classrooms Transform Learning at Don Bosco Technical College Chingola

Chingola, Zambia — 2026

A major expansion of learning infrastructure at Don Bosco Technical College Chingola has been completed, providing students with additional modern classrooms and creating greater capacity for technical and vocational education.

New Classrooms Transformation

Between 2021 and 2023, enrolment at Don Bosco College Chingola increased from 115 students to 578, placing considerable pressure on the institution’s existing learning facilities. The construction project was therefore designed to expand access to quality vocational education and improve the learning environment for young people.

During the reporting period, construction of a modern double-storey classroom block was completed, together with associated ablution facilities, classroom furniture and ICT equipment.

The remaining construction works, including the installation of classroom and office doors, final finishes and procurement of required equipment, were also completed. The building is now fully operational and in use by Don Bosco College Chingola. The new facility provides safe and spacious classrooms equipped with modern finishes, improved sanitation facilities and ICT resources.

The additional space has eased pressure on the college’s existing facilities and increased its ability to respond to growing demand for technical and vocational education.

The new classrooms are already supporting students and staff while providing the institution with additional capacity to accommodate future enrolment growth.

The project directly benefits 549 students — 304 females and 245 males — aged between 15 and 35 years. Additional young people accessing informal and non-formal skills training are also expected to benefit indirectly from the expanded facilities.

The gender composition of the beneficiaries also reflects the participation of both young women and men in technical and vocational education.

The expanded infrastructure has enabled Don Bosco Technical College Chingola to create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning while strengthening its capacity to provide quality technical and vocational training aligned with national development priorities.

Equipping the classrooms for learning

Construction was complemented by additional support to ensure that the new classrooms could become fully functional.

A separate co-funding project provided essential desks, boards, computers, office furniture and storage cabinets, ensuring that the newly constructed classrooms were properly furnished and equipped. The project had a budget of €34,000. This complementary investment helped maximise the educational value of the new infrastructure and improve both theoretical and practical learning conditions.

The completed classroom block represents an investment not only in buildings, but in the future of young people in Chingola and surrounding communities.

With increased teaching capacity and improved learning facilities, Don Bosco Technical College Chingola is better positioned to respond to growing demand for vocational education and to support young people as they develop technical skills for employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

The project had a total reported budget of €255,292.26.

The completion of the new classrooms is therefore an important milestone in Bosco Youth Reach-Out’s wider commitment to expanding access to quality education and vocational training creating more space to learn, more opportunities to develop skills and stronger pathways towards employment and self-reliance.
